With the NBA season starting soon, many free agents are still waiting for their call-up. Michael Beasley is one who constantly gets overlooked.

In a recent interview with Boston Globe, Beasley said he isn’t exactly sure why he hasn’t played for a team in nearly five years.

“If I had to answer that question [why I’m not in the league], I would have solved it a long time ago,” he said. “But I don’t know. For me, it’s just staying in shape and being ready if it comes.”

The last time he played in a NBA uniform was in 2019 with the Los Angeles Lakers. Since then, he has performed overseas for the Guangdong Southern Tigers, Cangrejeros de Santurce, and Shanghai Sharks.

But when he was in the league, he was a great role player who shined when given a starting role. After a great college career, he was selected by the Miami Heat as the second overall pick in the 2009 draft. He averaged double-figure points his first five years, playing some of his best basketball with the Heat.

In January 2023, Beasley told Sports Illustrated he believes he can have a huge impact in today’s game.

“If you pay attention to how I play, that’s how the NBA plays today,” he said. “I stay in shape and play everyday. If I get the call, I can definitely make an impact. The NBA is on some shit. Donovan scored 71, Luka 50, LeBron still scoring 40. The game is wide open. When I was playing, the game was about defense. It is about holding teams to 75, 80, 90 points. Now it’s like a rodeo. One of my sayings, growing up “My offense is my defense”. My defense is a better offense. That’s the direction the NBA is going right now. At the end of the day, you can’t beat me if you can’t score. The game Donovan had 71. When I was in the NBA, 115, 120 was a high scoring game. When I was in the NBA, it was a race of 100. Now they score 140, 150. I just think the NBA is all towards scoring the ball. I just feel like scoring is the most part of the game.”

Beasley isn’t just talking about it, he shows it via social media. No doubt, he should be given another opportunity.
