LeBron James had many great teammates throughout his career. One of the never-ending debates is which one was the best.

In a recent episode of I AM ATHLETE’s Paper Route podcast, sport’s radio host Ashley Nicole Moss said Kyrie Irving was more important than Dwyane Wade.

“If Kyrie doesn’t show up, LeBron does not win,” Moss said. “If you take away and you cut D Wade’s role in half for that Miami team, I believe they still win. Because you had [Chris] Bosh, you had Ray Allen. And let’s not talk about the supporting cast that Miami Heat had. Kyrie couldn’t do that in Cleveland.”

As crazy as it sounds, her hot take might have a slight point. According to StatMuse, James has lost more games with the Cleveland Cavaliers without Irving than in Miami without Wade.

When James, Wade, and Bosh teamed up in Miami, they formed a “Big Three”. Together, they were known for dunks and alley-oops but they had other complementary parts. Mike Miller, Mario Chalmers, James Jones and Ray Allen were 3-point shooters who they could rely on when the paint got too crowded. This combination led them to four straight Finals appearances from 2011-2014 and back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.

But to say Irving is better than Wade is a stretch. Though he has more skillful abilities, such as ball-handling and 3-point shooting, Wade had a more dominant presence. He could shoot, dunk and defend better than the average guard. He was also partially responsible for making James a better winner. When James left the Heat, he won championships with the Cavaliers and Lakers.

Considering Irving is still playing, he has time to top Wade. But it’s very unlikely.
