Miami Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra Says He is ‘Not Surprised’ About the Inconsistency This Season

The Miami Heat have failed to put together three consecutive wins since the middle of February.

The Miami Heat’s crucial game against the Brooklyn Nets (40-34) Saturday night ended in a blowout loss, setting back aspirations of controlling their destiny for the rest of the season. A solid first half was undone by a 31-point second half, where Miami shot 28 percent from the field while allowing 64 points defensively.

After two consecutive victories, the Heat failed to put together a win streak once again.

The Heat’s inconsistency this season has been frustrating for many fans. The last time they won more than two consecutive games was Feb. 8-11. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra says this is a normal part of going through the motions in a season.

“I'm not surprised by anything that's happened at all this season,” Spoelstra said. “We've said this a few times and it remains true. There has been nothing easy about this season and that doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a negative. You have to embrace the struggle, you have to figure out ways to stay together. stay in the saddle and then persevere. Our group has great, collective, competitive character. There are so many teams going through similar things. You're dealing with a lot of competitive emotions and you have to perform and compete at a high level and we have been. We just got categorically outplayed tonight. You have to give them credit.”

The Heat have a chance to rebound from the Nets loss Tuesday night against the Toronto Raptors (36-38). Toronto is fighting for a play-in spot as the ninth seed in the East.
