Miami Heat Guarantee Haywood Highsmith's Contract This Season

The Miami Heat made the decision to guarantee Haywood Highsmith's contract two days before Saturday's deadline

.Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith’s contract is guaranteed next season.

On Thursday, it was reported by ESPN and other outlets he is returning for another year.

While this isn't big as the announcement of a Damian Lillard acquisition but this is still good news for the Heat getting Highsmith back.

He had his best season last year, playing in 54 games with 11 starts. His primary role was as a defensive anchor, which he succeeded on multiple occasions. One of his shining moments was the Jan. 24 win over the Boston Celtics. He held star Jayson Tatum to four points on 20 percent shooting with three turnovers, while putting up 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Highsmith had several double-digit scoring performances and shot a respectable 34 percent from 3-point range. Another year of development could see him elevate his game even further. The Heat need depth at the power forward position, and Highsmith can provide two-way playmaking off the bench.

Fans should be happy to see him back…if they haven’t driven themselves crazy waiting for Lillard news.
