Brunson had his third 40-point game of the season

TOP PLAYERS OF THE DAY

The battle of New York ended with the Knicks taking victory against the Nets behind Jalen Brunson’s 40 points. Brunson was 15 of 21 from the field with six 3-pointers to cap his third 40-point performance of the season.

“Obviously seeing him play in college and he was amazing and I knew he would have a long career in the NBA, but I didn’t think it was going to be how he’s playing now," said Knicks forward Josh Hart, who was Brunson's teammate at Villanova. “And he’s someone who should be an All-Star and he’s playing at an All-Star level.”

OTHERS

-The San Antonio Spurs’ last game against the Cavaliers ended in a close victory back in December.

Donovan Mitchell made sure that didn’t happen again. Mitchell led his team to victory this time by scoring 41 points on 16 of 26 shooting, including six 3-pointers. One of the highlights of the night was his crossover on Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan.

Despite the win, Mitchell and coach J.B. Bickerstaff expressed disappointment with the late blown lead.

“Sometimes when you have success, you have lapses," Mitchell said. "We played a team to their record and that can't happen. So for us, take this as a learning lesson. We can't really play around.”

- Damian Lillard’s 40 points carried the Trail Blazers to victory against the Los Angeles Lakers.

- Anthony Edwards had another superstar performance in the Timberwolves’ win against the Dallas Mavericks. The recently-named All-Star reserve had 32 points, countering the star tandem of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

- Brandon Ingram’s 34-point performance helped the Pelicans defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder. Ingram is on a tear to start the month, averaging 30 points on 55.2 percent shooting.

-Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving scored 32 of his 36 points in the second half in a loss to the Timberwolves.
