Andre Iguodala spent two seasons with the Miami Heat towards the end of his career, but his impact went beyond the court.

The four-time NBA champion announced his retirement on Friday morning, telling Andscape’s Marc Spears, “It’s just the right time.”

“Time started to get limited for me, and I didn’t want to put anything in the back seat. I didn’t want to have to try to delegate time anymore,” Iguodala told Andscape in a phone interview. “Especially with on the court, off the court with family. A lot.”

Iguodala spent two seasons with the Heat, in 2020 and 2021. The veteran forward provided leadership to the Heat’s young stars, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro, in their 2020 NBA Finals run.

While there, he averaged just 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds on 39.6 percent shooting.

“You want to play at a high level. But then, family is a lot. My son is 16 and then two girls,” Iguodala said. “So, [I’m] looking forward to seeing them grow up in those important years.”

His prime came during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors. Iguodala began his career in Philadelphia, where he was named an All-Star. He averaged  19.9 points that year. In Golden State, he was past his peak but played a pivotal role in the Warriors four championships. Iguodala was named the Finals MVP in 2015.
