Gabrielle Union Reacts to Mac McClung’s Dunk at the NBA Contest

NBA G League Rookie of the Year Mac McClung’s dunks at the NBA Dunk Contest drew strong reactions. Gabrielle Union was among the many in attendance that was impressed with his display.

Union is the wife of Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade. Some joked that Union’s impressions would have implications for her relationship with Wade.

McClung had a lot to prove as a G League player that was just signed to the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-way contract. He became the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk champion after several jaw-dropping dunks.

McClung became the second undrafted player to win the slam dunk contest during NBA All-Star weekend.

He joined former Miami Heat forward Derrick Jones Jr., who won it in 2020 in Chicago. McClung spent most of the season playing in the G League.

"I'm super grateful for this opportunity," McClung said. "I think a lot of guys in the G League probably deserve this light that I just got. I'm very appreciative and I hope I represented well for them, and I really appreciate the NBA giving us this opportunity."

Heat guard Tyler Herro wasn't as fortunate in the 3-point competition. He did not advance past the first round. Herro was dealing with a knee injury that caused him to miss the final two games before the break, so it could have impacted his performance.
