Some were ready to write off the Miami Heat after their Game 1 loss to the Denver Nuggets. They responded with a nail-biting victory to hand Denver their first home loss this postseason.

It was a game of runs. Max Strus had the hot hand early in the first quarter with 12 points on four 3-pointers.

They let up in the second quarter but slowly climbed and kept it close all the way into the fourth. Then, the final period is where Miami took their commanding lead. The lead narrowed after Jamal Murray got loose but the team held on to win. Duncan Robinson had 10 points in the period after being scoreless all game. Heat Twitter was flooded with praise for the sharpshooter.

Jimmy Butler added eight in the final period en route to a 21-point performance. Bam Adebayo also scored 21 with seven in the closing minutes. Heat fans saw “Playoff Jimmy” once again when it mattered most, and Adebayo continued his high scoring to keep the momentum rolling.

Of course, it wasn’t all glory on social media, especially for veteran center Cody Zeller. The criticism for him is routine at this point unless he drops 20 points or locks up Nikola Jokic. But since neither is happening, fans continue to go after him when he’s on the court.

Nevertheless, it was a good look for the fanbase. The series is tied up going to Miami, where they are 6-2 this postseason.

They host the Nuggets Wednesday night.
