NBA Trainer Chris Brickley Explains The Difference Of Training Miami Heat Superstar Jimmy Butler

In this story:
Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler had the most efficient season of his career last year, much thanks to his trainer, Chris Brickley.
Last season, Butler averaged 22.9 points on 53.9 percent shooting and 35 percent from three-point range. This was a key factor in the Heat’s improbable NBA Finals run as the No. 8 seed.
Brickley and GQ Sports collaborated, sharing how his workouts differ between stars such as Butler, Donovan Mitchell, and Kawhi Leonard.
"So, Jimmy Butler, his workout routine is also a little different. Before we did our first workout, he’s fired or let go of his last four or five trainers,” Brickley said. “Because they just wanted to shoot threes with him, and they just wanted to work on dribble moves, and that's not Jimmy's game.”
Butler’s competitive nature shines through as a bright spot in his game. This is a large reason why Miami has found much success in the last four seasons. Brickley explained Butler’s style of play, emphasizing the reason behind his huge performances.
“Jimmy's game is finishing; he’s someone that needs his touch, so like, we start the workout out with shooting just different shots in the paint, different shots around the paint. His big thing is if I'm making those shots around the paint, then all my other shots are going to be going,” Brickley explained. “So if you were to actually watch a game and he starts the game off and he makes a few shots around the paint, he's going to have a hot night that night.”
