In this story:

The Charlotte Hornets hold the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft and will likely use that selection on guard Scoot Henderson (G League Ignite) or forward Brandon Miller (Alabama).

This marks the fourth time in franchise history that Charlotte has held the second pick in the draft. What happened the last three times? Let's take a look back.

2012: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (Kentucky)

Whew, this is bad. Just about as bad as MKG's jump shot. Kidd-Gilchrist didn't come anywhere close to the billing of a No. 2 overall pick. In fact, he's probably one of the worst top-five selections of this century. In eight seasons in Charlotte, MKG averaged 8.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. One of the several reasons Rich Cho lost his job as general manager.

Who went No. 1: Anthony Davis.

Players passed on: Bradley Beal, Damian Lillard, Andre Drummond.

2004: Emeka Okafor (UConn)

Okay, a little better. Okafor carved out a decent career with the Bobcats averaging 14 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game in his five seasons in Charlotte. He spent three more years with the Hornets in New Orleans before heading to Washington in 2012. Neck injuries derailed his career, forcing him to miss four consecutive seasons before returning to the court for 26 games with the Pelicans. It's hard to say whether or not the Charlotte got this pick right as the players they passed on below sustained success a little longer but the Bobcats didn't have much around Okafor either.

Who went No. 1: Dwight Howard.

Players passed on: Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Andre Iguodala.

1992: Alonzo Mourning (Georgetown)

Much better. Although he only spent three seasons in Charlotte, the Hornets got this one right. Mourning went on to have a Hall of Fame career, averaging 17.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game over his 17 years in the league. During his three years in Charlotte, the Hornets compiled a record of 135-111 (.549). I'm sure Hornets fans would have loved to have had Shaq but they got the next-best player in the draft.

Who went No. 1: Shaquille O'Neal.

Players passed on: Christian Laettner, Jim Jackson.
