Report: Hornets Games to Appear On Amazon Prime

The faulty Bally app could soon be condemned to history

The only thing worse than watching the Charlotte Hornets play atrocious basketball, is not being able to watch them at all. Diamond Sports Group (DSG) who run "Bally Sports" and carry the media rights for the Charlotte Hornets and have been unpopular from day one. Blackouts and a faulty app have ruined the viewing experience for many, but at least one of those issues could soon be a thing of the past

Joe Pompliano who runs the "Huddle Up" Substack which breaks down money and business behind sports reported that Amazon Prime has acquired a minority stake in DSG. Pompliano doesn't say when, but reveals that customers will now be able to watch games on Amazon Prime instead of the Bally Sports app.

This can only be good news for the reliability of viewing. Amazon's streaming platform "Prime" has successfully aired various major sporting events, including NFL games. With the TV rights deal up for negotiation at the end of the 2024 season, could this be a tactical precursor to Amazon making a big for local broadcast rights? Unfortunately, there is no update on if this latest deal with remove area blackouts, but at least those who can watch will now have a functioning streaming app to watch through.
