Hornets Stun Mavericks, 117-109

The Hornets move to 24-51 on the season.

The shorthanded Charlotte Hornets took down the Dallas Mavericks 117-109 Friday night - a result nobody saw coming 24 hours ago. The Injury report coming into the game was not a pretty sight as Charlotte was without four players, including two more starters in Kelly Oubre and Terry Rozier.

The Hornets impressed from start to finish and led throughout the majority of the night. They did get out to a 21-point lead, but the Mavs would not go away quietly. Dallas put up 32 points in the third quarter to cut the deficit to single digits.

An important thing to note is that Mark Williams played his first game since suffering a thumb injury a few weeks ago. He was on a minutes restriction but was pretty solid for the action that he did see, finishing the night with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Nick Richards started over Williams and he showcased why the Hornets gave him a 3-year extension, posting a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Even Svi Mykhailiuk was serviceable in this game and played one of his best games as a Hornet putting up 13 points on 3/5 shooting from three-point range.

Player of the Game For Charlotte: PF P.J. Washington

This one came down to P.J. Washington or Gordon Hayward, but Washington overall had the more productive performance. He was the most impactful on offense scoring 28 points. Defensively, he came away with two steals and one blocked shot while pulling down four rebounds on that end.
