In this story:

The Charlotte Hornets are in need of a backup guard. Could you think of a better realistic option than hometown kid, Seth Curry?

I can't.

Signing Curry may be a little pricey for a small market team but it's a move that would indicate the team is serious about taking that next step in the Eastern Conference. You must have quality bench play if you're going to make it to the postseason and as we all witnessed last season, the Hornets desperately need to address its backcourt depth.

Each time LaMelo Ball missed significant time due to injury, the Hornets struggled to find consistency at the point. Terry Rozier played the position out of necessity but they also rotated in Theo Maledon and Dennis Smith Jr. there some too.

Rozier can certainly handle the point, but let's be honest, he's much better off the ball. Dennis Smith Jr. isn't someone that can really run an offense and Maledon is, in my opinion, a below average option.

With Seth Curry, you're getting a proven and experienced veteran guard that has seen it all. If Ball continues to have injury issues, Steve Clifford won't be forced to play Rozier out of position and there wouldn't be nearly as big of a drop-off going to Curry, who has started 206 games throughout his career.

And yes, I know Curry has played the two the majority of his career but he is more than capable of running the point as well.

This past season with the Brooklyn Nets, Curry averaged 9.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.6 steals per game while shooting 46% from the field and 40% from three-point range. He can handle it, facilitate, play-make, and most importantly, give the Hornets a boost beyond the arc.

I understand signing Curry may seem like a far-fetched idea but it's really not. He even told Sam Albuquerque of Greenville News earlier this summer that the possibility has crossed his mind.

"You always think about it. Growing up a Hornets fan, watching my dad play, you always think about one of us wearing that No. 30 Hornets jersey in the modern era," Curry said. "But like I always say, you never know in this league."
