Kon Knueppel's Stellar Rookie Season Continues with New Franchise Record

In this story:
Kon Knueppel can add yet another accolade to his impressive rookie season campaign. Knueppel has now set the Hornets franchise record for single-season three-pointers made, following his performance in Thursday's win over the Phoenix Suns.
Knueppel needed just four threes heading into the game to move ahead of Hornets legend and player enhancement coach Kemba Walker, who set the record at 260 3PM during the 2018-19 season. Knueppel knocked down 3-pointer number 261 on the season with just under 8:30 left to play in the game to officially break the record.

True to Knueppel's humble nature, when asked about achieving the feat, he praised his teammates and what they've been able to accomplish.
"I think especially with the team success, it’s been real fun to enjoy some of that individual success as well," Knueppel said. "Really turning this thing around, and with the season we’re having, really feeling the love from the fans. It feels great, it’s encouraging us, and it helps us play better basketball.”
Hornets head coach Charles Lee not only praised his star rookie but also waited for Kon's postgame media availability to congratulate and celebrate with him.

"Extremely happy for him, well-deserved honor. The team didn’t like when I said ‘Kemba who?’ after the game, but love Kemba, love the standard and the bar he set, but it was really cool to see Kon throughout the year and just continue to get better and better," Hornets head coach Charles Lee explained. "He’s super humble, and recognized all of his teammates and all of the work they did to help put him in good positions. Really happy for him, it’s great."
Hornets forward Miles Bridges is the only remaining player on the team from Kemba's final season with the Hornets and the year Walker set the record at 260.
“It’s crazy because Kemba was so dominant during that time; he was Third-Team All-NBA. So, for Kon to break that record, it speaks volumes about Kon and us as a team," Bridges said. "We want everybody to succeed, we don’t care who’s scoring, who’s shooting, just as long as we’re winning games, and that shows our continuity and Kon’s shot-making ability.”
Kon continues his push for Rookie of the Year, and the Hornets continue their push for the postseason, as the team hosts the Indiana Pacers Friday night.
