Hornets

The Charlotte Business Journal ($) wrote about the Hornets’ new mobile ticketing policy.

At the Athletic ($), Rod Boone has part two of his notes from James Borrego’s media luncheon earlier this week. A few things that jumped out to me:

  • It has been indicated that the Hornets are embarking on a youth movement, but that doesn’t mean the veterans – Batum, MKG and Marvin Williams, specifically – will be sitting on the bench all season. Said Borrego: “Those veterans have the ability to compete for minutes. This is not strictly I’m handing minutes to young guys.”
  • Borrego said he sees Miles Bridge playing more power forward than small forward this season. “I think that’s where his advantage is,” Borrego said.
  • With Bridges playing more of the four, P.J. Washington could be used as a stretch-five. Said Borrego: “The way this league is going, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him moving to some ‘5’ as well.”

Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer had his own story from Borrego’s luncheon. Borrego said he left the defense in “no-man’s land” by trying to deploy the Spurs’ approach to defense last season.

In his biggest questions for every team, Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report asks of the Hornets: How big of a jump can Miles Bridges make?

In a story on Hornets.com, Borrego said this of Terry Rozier: “He’s a very competitive kid. He will drive our defense, he will drive our competitive spirit on a night-to-night basis.”

Around the NBA

The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor lists seven players primed to take *the leap*.

Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the New Orleans Hornets hired Teresa Weatherspoon as an assistant coach. A WNBA legend, a basketball hall of famer and a former college head coach, she will work in a player development role. She won an NCAA title in 1988 at Louisiana Tech and was a five-time WNBA All-Star, twice leading the league in steals. She is now the 11 woman currently working in the NBA as a coach.

LaMelo Ball is now being projected as a contender for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 Draft, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. There’s a mock draft in here too, which has the Hornets picking second.

From Sports Illustrated, five teams that should tank this year. Surprise! The Hornets are on this list.
