With the promotion of previous Stars’ head coach Scott Morrison to the Utah Jazz’s coaching squad, the team’s G-League affiliate was in the market for another coach for next season. Now, they’ve found one in former Marquette coach, Steve Wojciechowski.

Wojciechowski, otherwise known as Wojo, finally gets a shot with a professional level team. After previously coaching as an assistant for Duke for 15 years, along with another 7 at Marquette, he had a ton of experience to bring to the table.

While at Marquette, his teams won 57.4% he coached in, while appearing in March Madness twice in the process. Now, he’ll look to build on some of that success in the G-League for the 2023-24 season.

In an article by ESPN, here’s what Adrian Wojnarowski had to say about the pickup:

"Wojciechowski, who has been living in the Salt Lake City area since departing Marquette in 2021, has been eager to make the leap into pro coaching and now lands with a franchise replete with young players and three first-round picks in the 2023 NBA draft,” Woj says. "He had spent time around the Jazz organization over the past two years, especially in the 2021-22 season because of his longtime relationship with former Jazz coach Quin Snyder. Wojciechowski spent time in the past season attending some Jazz practices and building a relationship with coach Will Hardy."

It seems as if Wojciechowski has had his eyes on an opportunity with Utah for a long time, and now his work is paying off off. Becoming integrated with the staff and coaches seemed to be a perfect way to showcase his value to the Jazz’s organization.

The Stars will look to build on their 20-12 record from last season now with a new coach at the head of things. It’ll surely be an interesting story to follow for Jazz fans seeing how Wojo’s coaching career continues to develop, potentially soon at the NBA level if all goes well for him.
