Jazz News: Johnny Juzang Secures Qualifying Offer Before Free Agency
On the eve before the chaos of NBA free agency opens, the Utah Jazz decided to extend a qualifying offer to Johnny Juzang before he’s officially a restricted free agent on Friday. While his roster spot next year on this deal wouldn’t be guaranteed considering his two-way status, it shows continued interest in keeping on Juzang going into next year, if possible.
If you’re unfamiliar with the conditions of a qualifying offer, NBA.com defines it as "a standing offer for a one-year guaranteed deal, which becomes a regular contact if the player decides to sign it.” The Jazz will retain Juzang on a two-way contract unless another team wants to offer him. If so, the Jazz will have the opportunity to match it or decide to let him walk.
Juzang only appeared in 18 total games last season, his time split in the G-League with the Salt Lake City Stars. In the 13 minutes per game he was called up to play, he posted averages of 4.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 0.4 assists.
In his second year with more room to grow, a return to Utah could be what Juzang needs to take his pro career to the next level. With the free agency period starting at 4 PM MST on June 30th, all offseason questions will soon be answered for Jazz fans.
