Report: Jazz Fans Can Pump Breaks on Jaylen Brown Trade With Celtics

New information has surfaced surrounding the future of the Boston Celtics’ wing after their Game 7 loss vs. the Miami Heat on Monday.

As expected, with the Boston Celtics’ Game 7 loss on Monday night, reporters were eagerly waiting to ask All-NBA wing Jaylen Brown about his future with the franchise. Despite these reporter’s intentions, Brown didn’t entertain much of the questions that came to light. A fair approach, considering he was about 20 minutes removed from losing in an Eastern Conference Finals elimination game:

“I expected to win today and move on. That’s what my focus was on. That’s what my focus has been on. We failed. I failed. And it’s hard to think about anything else right now to be honest. I’m going to cross that bridge when we get there."

Considering the team’s persistent troubles to make it over the championship hump, and the money expected to issue out to both Brown and Jayson Tatum, questions were inevitably going to rise if the Celtics failed to get themselves their long-awaited ring this postseason. With potentially $618 million tied up within both of these players is a load of bread to pay out for just two players that haven’t won a championship together.

However, recent reports show the Celtics’ intention to re-up Brown with an extension soon, despite his Game 7 woes. Not only did Brown struggle to see his shots fall the entire night, but his ball handling and security was simply awful. Eight turnovers in an elimination game, combined with a chance to go to the Finals is a blemish that will likely haunt Jaylen for a bit. Despite this, Boston’s front office still has faith in the promise the wing has shown up to this point.

Jaylen Brown’s forgettable showing in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals may have little bearing on his future with the Boston Celtics. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported at the 16:57 mark of his Hoop Collective podcast he believes Brown, who’s eligible for free agency in 2024, will re-sign when the moment comes. “I would be stunned,” Windhorst said about the idea of Brown and Jayson Tatum having played their last game together Monday night. “In talking to people on both sides, I think there’s a very good chance they’re gonna find ground on that.”

Until we see any change in the Celtics’ stance, Utah Jazz fans can slow the discussions on a Jaylen Brown deal. Current Jazz CEO, Danny Ainge has some previous Celtics ties, along with holding an enticing collection of assets in a deal, raising some trade rumors connecting the two pieces together.

Even if a trade were possible, the amount of assets required to bring in Brown would be a substantial amount, to the point that may not even be worth it for Utah. The most recent trades involving All-Star level players require multiple first round picks to be sent off. It’s a large gamble to pay, and honestly, looking at Brown’s most recent playoff showing, is it even smart to sell the farm for that level of uncertainty? I’m not sure it would be.

Of course, there will be some more interesting and exciting options on the market for the Jazz to look at as the offseason progresses. But, as of now, Utah can, and should steer clear of the situation brewing with the Celtics at this point.
