Lauri Markkanen Out-Duels Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in Jazz Win

In this story:
Fresh off hosting NBA All-Star weekend, the Utah Jazz found themselves entangled in a Western Conference shoot-out against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both teams currently roster All-Stars who competed in the game.
The Jazz sport Lauri Markkanen while the Thunder boast Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who crafted a back-and-forth affair on Thursday night that would delight any basketball fan. But in the end, Markkanen and his teammates hailed victorious over Gilgeous-Alexander, 120-119, in overtime.
The new-look Jazz recorded five double-digit scorers, led by Markkanen's 43 points, 10 boards, and two assists, along with an eye-popping +14 game rating. Jordan Clarkson chipped in with 24 points, six assists, and four boards, while Walker Kessler Windexed the glass and snagged 18 boards.
All of the Jazz starters registered + game ratings which is usually a recipe for success.
The victory raised Utah's record to 30-31, which ranks the team No. 9 in the Western Conference, and trending toward a playoff berth. Thursday night's winning performance is exactly what Jazz Nation needed after the All-Star break.
The Thunder placed three players in double-digits, led by Gilgeous-Alexander's 39 points. His supreme versatility was on full display, but he fell short of connecting on a game-winner.
His backcourt mate Josh Giddey scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Kendrick Williams came off the bench and scored 16 points. Also notable was Luguentz Dort's double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.
The Thunder are 28-30 and sit only a half-game out of a playoff spot. Hopefully, all of Jazz Nation was able to view this contest as it was a treat. The Jazz have had their share of exciting games this season, yet have a ways to go in securing their spot in the playoffs.
The Jazz will next battle the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday at Vivint Smart Arena.
