The Utah Jazz trade deadline acquisition looks to be on his way out sooner rather than later.

As we moved past the recent NBA trade deadline this February, the Utah Jazz opted to acquire the Toronto Raptors forward Otto Porter Jr. in a selling move, holding the main focus to net them a late first-round pick in this summer's draft. It effectively sent the 11-year wing's services over to Salt Lake City, but it wouldn't be long before it was announced the veteran would likely be on his way out.

Since being traded to Utah, Porter has remained home away from the Jazz to evaluate his options for a buyout as we move across the final stretch of the 2024 season. It's a lengthy process that's managed to drag over recent weeks, but it could come to a close very soon.

According to NBA insider Evan Sidery of Forbes Sports, Porter is expected to be bought out from the Jazz no later than March 1st eligibility deadline:

For a player acquired in free agency to be eligible for that season's playoffs, they must be released from their original roster by the first of March. As it stands, Porter still has a place on the Jazz roster, but with multiple championship teams being interested in his services, it's hard to see Utah cut ties any later than Friday.

Porter was acquired by Utah at this season's trade deadline from the Raptors as they shipped off Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji up north. He's recently dealt with several injury problems across the past two years but is now fully healthy and ready to contribute to another team down the stretch. Otto has appeared in 15 games for Toronto this season where he averaged 2.6 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.5 assists.

Expect to hear some more rumblings about what the future holds for Porter in the days ahead.
