Despite Utah Jazz shooting guard Jordan Clarkson leading all players with 28 points, Gilas Pilipinas fell short to the Dominican Republic on Friday Morning, 87-81.

Clarkson put on quite a display in front of a record crowd of 38,115 at the Philippine Arena but fouled out with 3:32 left to play, contributing to the Dominican Republic eventually sealing the victory. Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns led the Dominican Republic with 26 points in a winning cause.

The volume going through Clarkson was early and often. Clarkson shot the ball 24 times while only connecting on eight shots. The former Sixth Man of the Year didn’t help his cause by committing eight turnovers during the contest, too.

Clarkson has experience on the international stage in the past. Most notably, he played for the Philippines in the Asian Games, averaging 26 points per game and leading his team to a fifth-place finish. Clarkson qualifies as the team's naturalized player, with his grandmother being born in Bacolor Pampanga, Philippines.

The highlight of the day is the fact that the game broke a record for attendance in a FIBA game. The previous record goes all the way back to 1994 when the USA played Russia in the championship game.

Clarkson will get at least two more opportunities to redeem himself when he’ll face Angola on Sunday and Italy on Monday.
