The Sacramento Kings made two underrated moves in the 2022 NBA off-season that propelled them to their best season in 18 years. The Kings' hiring of head coach Mike Brown and associate coach Jordi Fernández is not talked about enough around the league.

The Kings hired Brown after he spent six straight seasons as an assistant for the Golden State Warriors and got Fernández after spending his first seven seasons as an assistant for the Denver Nuggets.

Sacramento took a chance on them when they needed it most. The Kings ended their 16-year NBA Playoff drought with a 48-win season led by these talented coaches.

After a successful season on the Kings' bench, Fernández was selected to be the head coach of Team Canada in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, where he would ultimately lead them to a Bronze Medal victory over Team USA.

The impressive coaching performance by Fernández in the FIBA World Cup this summer has sparked conversations about when he will get a head coaching job in the NBA.

In an interview with Toni Canyameras from Mundo Deportivo, Fernández answered the question all Kings fans are asking (via BasketNews):

"I'd really like to be an NBA head coach, and I trust that it will happen, but I wouldn't change this World Cup experience and the opportunity to coach at the Olympics for anything in the world. That's what really excites me because that's what will happen. The rest, it doesn't make much sense to think about things that you don't know if they will happen."

Fernández certainly deserves the opportunity to be a head coach in the NBA. His name circulated multiple team head coaching vacancies this off-season, and Kings fans were worried that he would be leaving Sacramento, but ultimately, he opted to stay on Brown's bench for at least one more year.

While Brown and Fernández are blessed to be coaching an All-NBA duo in G De'Aaron Fox and C Domantas Sabonis, the team's success revolves around the masterminds on the bench.

Kings fans need to brace themselves for when the day comes, but for now, Fernández is sticking in Sacramento.
