Report: Kings Sign F Deonte Burton Before NBA Training Camps Open

In this story:
As we inch closer to the beginning of the 2023-24 NBA season, franchises are continuing to build up their official rosters before we enter training camps to fill out any and all potential candidates to make the final 15-man. As for the Sacramento Kings, they’ve brought in another body to fight for a placement on the team.
According to Brendan Nunes of Sactown 1140, the Kings have opted to sign F Deonte Burton to a training camp contract. Burton was a member of the Sacramento’s G-League affiliate, the Stockton Kings, for 33 games, elevated to the team’s official roster for two games last season.

In Burton's 33 games with Stockton last season he averaged 11.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on 52/41/79 shooting.
Burton will join recently brought-on C Chance Comanche as another Exhibit 10 addition for the Kings leading into the beginning of training camps. It puts Sacramento at 19 total players on the roster, leaving two spots open for any other signings to come (one standard, one Exhibit 10).
Despite being undrafted initially, Burton managed to find his way onto the Oklahoma City Thunder for the first two seasons of his career. Through his 71 games played with OKC, he averaged 2.6 points and 1.2 rebounds on lacking efficiency.
Now 29, Burton will have another shot to make a name for himself in the league with aspirations to find a lasting roster spot. With impressive pre-season or training camp showings, the path to finding a solidified place on this team isn’t unforeseeable. It might take some serious production to accomplish, but the opportunity is at least provided.
Sacramento’s current wing depth looks pretty stable, with G Malik Monk, G Chris Duarte, and F Kessler Edwards potentially seeing some significant time for next season. It’ll be an uphill battle for Burton to merit a spot on the team, but it’s nothing that an undrafted player hasn’t been faced up against before.
Closing in on just over a week until NBA training camps officially open, the countdown is on for Kings fans to see their team back in action once again.
