The Sacramento Kings went into the All-Star break losing five of their previous nine games, including the worst loss of the season at home against the Detroit Pistons. As the Kings return from a week-long rest, Sacramento will face another bottom-of-the-barrel squad, hosting the San Antonio Spurs led by rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama

The Kings and Spurs have already met once this season, as the Kings came out of San Antonio with a 129-120 win. Kings star point guard De'Aaron Fox led the way with 43 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, while his co-star Domantas Sabonis chipped in 27 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists.

The Spurs frontcourt duo of Wembanyama and Zach Collins gave the Kings trouble in their last meeting, combining for 55 points, 17 rebounds, and five steals. Sacramento could be in trouble for Thursday's meeting with their key big man on the injury report:

Sacramento Kings:

Domantas Sabonis - QUESTIONABLE (illness)

Sasha Vezenkov - OUT (ankle)

San Antonio Spurs:

Charles Bassey - OUT (ACL)

Marcus Morris Sr. - OUT (away from team)

After appearing in each of Sacramento's 54 games this season, Sabonis could be absent in Sacramento's first game back from the All-Star break. The star big man missed Wednesday's practice due to an illness and could miss Thursday's marquee center matchup against San Antonio's generational talent.

Despite missing Wednesday's practice and entering the Injury Report as "doubtful," Sabonis returned to the court for Thursday's shootaround, giving fans hope as his status was upgraded to "questionable." With little room for error and just 28 games remaining, the Kings need their stars active for every matchup.

Sabonis has been climbing all rankings this season, notably the NBA MVP ladder. The All-Star snub has posted some of the best stats across the league, averaging 20.1 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 8.3 assists, arguably being Sacramento's most valuable player.

While Sabonis missing his first contest of the season would be an adjustment for the team, the Kings would still have no excuse to lose to an 11-win Spurs squad. Fox and company have to step up in Sabonis' absence and expect backup big man Alex Len to fill his spot in the starting lineup.

The Kings and Spurs tip off at 7 p.m. PT.
