Kings Had 8th-Best Offseason According to NBA Insider David Aldridge

In this story:
After a devastating loss against the Golden State Warriors in a seven-game series during these past playoffs, the Sacramento Kings went into this offseason with a plan: keep the roster stable with minor work done around the edges.
And that’s exactly what they did. Entering into the next NBA season with the same starting five as last year and some new depth pieces, Sacramento will have necessary improvements while maintaining the same core to build around. With additions such as F Sasha Vezenkov, F Chris Duarte, and rookie G Colby Jones, the Kings will have quality reinforcements added to their already-existing, successful team.
Insider David Aldridge had some positive words to say about the Kings’ offseason, ranking them eighth in the league for the NBA’s best offseason via The Athletic:
"Solid work from GM Monte McNair and company, taking the savings from moving [Richaun] Holmes and the draft rights to Prosper to be able to comfortably re-sign [Harrison] Barnes and finally bring aboard Vezenkov, the EuroLeague MVP this past season with Olympiacos. I also like taking low-cost fliers on [Nerlens] Noel and Duarte — the latter fell out of favor in Indy but is way too young to give up on. I’m not as sanguine on the renegotiation/extension amount for Sabonis. I get wanting to keep continuity for a team that finally ended the Kings’ postseason drought, but sometimes you can fall a little too in love with your own guys. Sabonis is an All-Star, to be sure, and a leader. But, as our John Hollinger pointed out, who were the Kings going to really be negotiating against next summer, when Sabonis would have been a free agent?"
Placed atop these rankings were the San Antonio Spurs with their addition of rookie sensation C Victor Wembanyama, followed by the Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns. At the eighth spot, the Kings are ranked at a respectable place in terms of productivity this summer.
Of the many constructive moves made this offseason, the biggest for Sacramento was the decision to extend C Domantas Sabonis.
Sabonis re-upped with the Kings on a massive 4-year, $217 million contract this offseason to keep him in town long-term. Now with both Sabonis and G De’Aaron Fox locked in for the foreseeable future, two All-NBA stars can keep Sacramento afloat in the Western Conference for years to come.
A conservative approach by GM Monte McNair left some fans questioning whether the Kings could have done more with the cards they were dealt this summer. However, Sacramento still has the assets readily available on hand to be opportunistic if the right deal comes around.
Their collection of solid role players on hand with every first-round pick from 2025 through 2031 makes for a tantalizing trade package to put together in the near future. Without the right move on the table right now, Sacramento can look ahead to potentially better options next summer.
For the first time in years, Kings fans can remain confident in the front office’s team-building process for this franchise moving forward.
