As we approach the 2023-24 NBA season, the Sacramento Kings stand with 14 official roster spots taken, along with some two-way players and Exhibit 10 contracts to accompany them. It effectively leaves one spot readily available for the taking before next year gets underway.

This allows the Kings to seek a final piece to this existing talented roster through the open market. The most coveted movers in free agency are long gone since signing their deals this July, but a few leftover rotational pieces remain waiting for their next shot to join an NBA team.

Sacramento has done just that, as HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reports that the Kings have brought in former Minnesota Timberwolves G Jaylen Nowell for a workout. He’s a four-year NBA vet who’s spent each year in the league with Minnesota and could now be eyeing the chance of joining the second team of his career.

Nowell has remained relatively productive since entering the league in 2019. He’s coming off his best season with averages of 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. His outside shooting did take a slight dip from what we’ve seen in years past (28.9%), but he’s proven to be capable of staying respectable from behind the arc, shooting a combined 34.5% from deep across his first four seasons.

The Kings currently have a nice rotation of wing depth to lean on for next season with players like G Kevin Huerter, G Malik Monk, G Chris Duarte, and rookie G Colby Jones, but signing on another bench spark plug to add into the lineup like Nowell likely wouldn’t hurt.

Less than a week remains until training camp starts around the NBA, so the finalization of regular season rosters is creeping upon us. Still left with a good amount of serviceable players to bring into the 15-man, the Kings have an intriguing decision to make in the coming days.
