In this story:

On a team packed with downright historic talent, Breanna Stewart is doing her utmost to stand out and then some.

More history awaited the New York Liberty's star acquisition on Sunday afternoon, which saw the bearers of seafoam down the Indiana Fever by a 100-89 final at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. New York's No. 30 matched her jersey number in scoring in the first half en route to 42 points total. Her third game with at least 40 points (two against the Fever) set a new WNBA single-season record.

The Liberty (24-6) also established new franchise records with its 24th victory over the season and its seventh straight on the road (yet another franchise record). Elsewhere on the individual level, Jonquel Jones (15 points, 12 rebounds) had another double-double while Courtney Vandersloot dished out a season-best 14 assists. Sabrina Ionescu sank only two triples but that was enough to add her name among those to hit at least 100 three-pointers in a single WNBA season (joining Diana Taurasi and Kelsey Plum).

Completing a four-game sweep of the feisty Fever (8-23) wasn't easy: Sunday's hosts, eager to stand their ground, also enjoyed some early high-scoring antics, as Kelsey Mitchell led the team with 12 points en route to a 31-29 lead after the first quarter. The Liberty, however, allowed no more than 20 in any of the final three, allowing Stewart's showcase to commence in relative peace.

Every time Indiana crept back in after the Liberty took a permanent lead in the second quarter (the shift appropriately coming through a Stewart triple), an answer was provided: Betnijah Laney joined fellow starters Ionescu, Jones, and Stewart in the double-figures sisterhood with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting (including a dagger triple in the final minute) while Stef Dolson, Marine Johannes, and Kayla Thornton united for 17 points in relief.

With the defeat, Indiana currently sits 4.5 games behind Chicago for the eighth and final WNBA playoff spot. Mitchell led the Fever with 22 points while Erica Wheeler was one behind her at 21. Freshman sensation Aliyah Boston was one rebound short of a double-double, adding 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

A six-game road trip for the Liberty continues further west, as the team is getting the charter flight treatment for the first half of a doubleheader in Sin City: Tuesday's rematch with the defending champion Las Vegas Aces (9 p.m. ET, Amazon Prime Video) will decide the winner of the Commissioner's Cup in-season competition.

The current WNBA frontrunners, Las Vegas and New York have split two meetings (each side vigorously defending its home hardwood) thus far and the Aces are looking to become the first repeat winners of the Commissioner's Cup, which will be staged for its third season of operation.
