Darn Hootin'! Florida Atlantic Nests in MSG, Takes Down Tennessee For Elite Eight Bid

NEW YORK-For one night ... maybe two if history repeats itself on Saturday ... the Florida Atlantic Owls called Madison Square Garden home along the New York Knicks, even with a fair number of fan clad in the primary tenants' shade of orange.
FAU's magical run through the NCAA Tournament continued on Thursday night, as the Owls downed Tennessee by a 62-55 final in Manhattan, setting up an East Regional final against early victor Kansas State. Thus continues the Owls' second-ever appearance in the Big Dance, one set to continue with on Saturday against the Wildcats (6:09 p.m. ET, TBS).
Seeded ninth after gaining entry as the Conference USA, the Owls (34-3) once again rose to the occasion in the second half of play, erasing a five-point halftime deficit to the tune of a 40-28 advantage over the latter 20 minutes. Though he was burdened with foul trouble, Johnell Davis led the Owls with 15 points while Nick Boyd had 12 points and eight rebounds. Defensively, they limited the Volunteers to 33 percent shooting from the field throughout the game, including a brutal 3-of-14 mark from three-point range in the second half.
