He has already started recruiting some of the biggest talent across the NBA to join him, in what would be an All-Star-heavy lineup. But after the result that Team USA just had at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the Americans need to redeem themselves badly.
Getting James on board would be huge for this team, but one writer seems to believe that he would be better suited coming off the bench. Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report makes his case for The King to not start if he joins Team USA.
“On a team full of veterans, LeBron would have a chance to be
the
leader, much like Kobe was for the 2008 Redeem Team. And while his name alone would probably put him in the starting five, imagining LeBron, Lillard and Tatum against second units is pretty exciting.”
Per Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report
While James could come off the bench, his draw alone would make him start. He is still the face of the NBA, even at his advanced age, so starting is likely a guarantee.
It's fun to think about the damage that this team could inflict if everyone came on board. It would be like the All-Star game, but with each player taking it seriously.
The rest of the world has caught up in terms of talent, but the United States still boasts an overall collection of talent that no other country can contend with. The gold medal would be Team USA’s to lose next year if everyone suited up.
