Los Angeles Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis had instantaneous on-court chemistry after Davis forced his way into town during the summer of 2019, but according to one talking head, things may be a bit less friendly off it.

Longtime broadcaster Colin Cowherd indicated on his self-titled podcast that an anonymous source informed him LA's two future Hall of Famers may not be as chummy as James and some of his past comrades.

“I’d been tipped by somebody around the Lakers that said LeBron and A.D. — after that reaction to LeBron breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record — they’re not boys,” Cowherd revealed. “It’s not hostile, but they’re not guys, right? You can tell from body language."

"I think there is a feeling LeBron feels like he kind of needs him for at least this year ’cause I had been told, in the last year, there are times LeBron is disappointed," Cowherd said. "He came in post-bubble out of shape. It was his turn to sort of triumphantly take the team. When LeBron’s missing, A.D.’s often not playing as well. … And there’s been some disappointment in the LeBron camp.”

Whether there is any veracity in these claims remains to be seen. The 38-year-old James certainly must be frustrated that the younger Davis, two days shy of his 30th birthday, is just as injury-prone as he is. Though he rarely got hurt through his first 15 NBA seasons, James has become considerably more brittle in his LA dotage. He has missed at least 19 games (soon to be 20, and he's not expected back for at least two weeks due to a right tendon injury) across four of his five years with Los Angeles.

They did win a title during their first season together, so at least there's that. Most All-Star NBA partnerships are not nearly so lucky to ever result in a Larry O'Brien Trophy at all.
