Lakers News: Insider Wonders If Revamped LA Preseason Offense Is A Fluke

In this story:

Entering the new NBA season, your Los Angeles Lakers look like one of the top contenders to win the 2024 league title. They built their roster out this offseason, and many believe they have the look of a true contender.

One aspect of that comes from the increased offensive production seen during the preseason. It allowed LA to play strong on both ends of the floor, giving them an edge over some opponents.

“The Lakers have the makings of a top-10 offense, which would be a first in the James-Davis era. There’s likely a defense trade-off with the additions in Los Angeles’ new rotation, but that’s a worthwhile compromise. If LA can rank in the top 10 on both sides of the ball, they’ll profile as a legitimate contender rather than a fringe one.”

Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic

LA brought in new pieces this offseason to help make sure their offense was more consistent than ever this year. They understand that they will need to be able to keep up with the other teams around the NBA, so three-point shooting becomes that much more crucial.

They stepped things up through the preseason, but they will need it to translate over into the real games. The Lakers have had some issues with their shooting in recent years, and it has hurt them.

“Through the preseason, the Lakers ranked tied for 18th in 3-pointers made per game, 18th in 3-pointers attempted per game and ninth in percentage. That cumulative 3-point shooting profile would be their best since the 2019-20 season, and could possibly exceed that campaign’s performance. The increase in 3s is paying off with better scoring efficiency with primary lineups.”

Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic

If the Lakers can even get their three-point shooting to an average rate, it would greatly help them. They need to be able to knock down shots at a high rate while playing their bully ball inside as well. It is what worked for them during their title year, and they are looking to do more of the same here.

This season has the feel of a very fun one for the Purple and Gold. They believe they have the roster to win it all, and now they just have to go out and execute everything to their best effort.
