Lakers: Jarred Vanderbilt Already Emerging As High-Impact New Addition

The forward has been a big help on both ends of the floor.

The Los Angeles Lakers have made several moves this offseason to bolster their roster, but one addition that may have been the steal of the trade deadline is Jarred Vanderbilt. The forward has truly emerged as an effective addition to the team on both ends of the floor.

Jovan Buha of The Athletic recently highlighted the 23-year-old in an article that focused on the ways in which Vanderbilt has added value to this Lakers team.

“Vanderbilt’s per-game averages are exactly in line with a high-end role player: 8.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.6 steals, 69.2 percent shooting. But his impact extends far beyond the box score. In the three games he’s played with James and Davis, the Lakers have outscored opponents by 40 points, the second-best mark on the team. The Lakers (29-32) are 4-1 since his arrival, with Vanderbilt playing an instrumental role thus far.”

Recently in the Lakers historic game, and victory, over the Dallas Mavericks, Vanderbilt proved himself to be a force on the court. One of Vanderbilt's most notable strengths is his rebounding ability. Against the Mavericks on Sunday, the 6’8’’ forward grabbed a season high 17 rebounds while also putting up 15 points to help the Lakers in their 111-108 win.

Vanderbilt has consistently been a top rebounder in games, and his hustle does not go unnoticed, as he is often seen in all areas of the floor. Not to mention, Vanderbilt's impact goes beyond just his rebounding. He has also shown versatility on the defensive end, using his length and athleticism to get up on opponents.

“Vanderbilt’s presence has helped the Lakers forge a similar identity to the one that was so impactful during their 2019-20 championship season. He addresses the need for a long, athletic, dirty-work forward that can seamlessly fit next to James and Davis.”

“All of the sudden, the Lakers have an imposing frontline, dominating smaller opponents on both ends, and capable of switching 3 through 5.”

On offense, Vanderbilt is just as productive, as he has showcased his ability to finish around the rim and high mid-range jumpers. Vanderbilt’s early impact is undeniable and has been a positive for the Lakers amid the team’s rough season.

The 6'9" power forward has already shown that he can be a valuable contributor, and now becomes even more of an important piece for the team while LeBron James sits out with his injury.
