Lakers News: Darvin Ham Gets Real About LA's Failed 4th Quarter Comeback Vs Kings

In this story:

Your Los Angeles Lakers' mini three-game win streak came to an end on Wednesday evening as they dropped another contest to the Sacramento Kings at home. It was a poor performance from them starting with the opening tip, and the Kings took it to them.

LA head coach Darvin Ham opened up about the Lakers failed comeback attempt in the fourth quarter against the Kings.

“I told them at the break at the end of the third, we’ve got about four or five minutes to see if we can do something and dig into this lead, minimize the deficit,” Ham said. “Whenever we get stops, we take care of the ball, we’re usually fine. And I know the amount of scoring that we have on our team, particularly those five guys that finished for us, so you’ve got to give them a chance to see what they can do.”

LA was down the entire game, but they got somewhat close in the fourth before it was too late. The team had come back in games previously this season, so Ham saw no reason why they couldn’t do it again. But it wasn’t meant to be.

“They sliced Sacramento’s margin to nine with just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter, giving the crowd at Crypto.com Arena an infusion of energy. But the last four of the Lakers’ 23 turnovers cost them in a 125-100 loss on a night when most players seemed to have heavy legs — except, of course, James.”

You could tell that the Lakers seemed a little fatigued the entire game. They were playing on the second night of a back-to-back, and it showed badly in this one. It’s no excuse for their performance, but it does need to be added to the context of why they struggling so heavily.

LA will get another chance to right the ship when they take on the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday evening. It will be the third game of the In-Season tournament for the team, and so far, they are undefeated.
