Lakers News: Former LA Big Man Critical Of NIL For This Reason

Too little, too late!

At the peak of his basketball career, DeMarcus Cousins possessed a skillset and demeanor on the court that gave him a legit argument to be named the best center in the NBA. Both Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid were still coming into their own, Dwight Howard's athleticism had started to decline and Anthony Davis eventually became a teammate of his.

It's truly unfortunate that we never got to see the full potential of this duo in New Orleans due to Cousins going down with an achilles tear and eventually leaving in free agency to the Warriors.

However, NBA fans were excited to see them try things again with the Los Angeles Lakers before bad luck struck again and Boogie suffered an ACL tear before playing a single game with the purple and gold. Despite contributing for a number of playoff teams after his recovery and getting vouches from a number of key members around the league, Cousins remains out of the NBA and has played overseas along with appearing on a number of sports talk shows and podcasts.

He recently joined 'KG Certified' on Showtime and gave his opinion on the state of college basketball, specifically focusing on NIL deals for star athletes.

"At this point college is giving their reparations," said Cousins. "They robbed us enough. Let's keep it a buck... when you really think about the stuff they had going on in college and how they treat these athletes, that s**t's sick. When I was at Kentucky, and this is no knock to Kentucky because this was just the time we was in. We having tournaments in Cancun, Mexico. There's 3,000 people with a Cousins in Kentucky shirt but the vendor outside just made 60 bands with my name. But I get in trouble for a free meal?"

Cousins made it clear that he is happy for the current crop of players being able to get paid for their name, image and likeness but he just doesn't like what the NCAA has done in the past.
