Lakers News: Nikola Jokic Just Passed LeBron James In This All-Time Stat

In this story:
Los Angeles Lakers All-NBA forward LeBron James' ability to have a well-rounded approach to the game is what has helped him become one of the greats. He gets others involved at a high rate, and he has been filling up the stat sheets for years as a passer and playmaker.
But recently, another player has been catching up to him in one category, and he finally overtook James.
Denver Nuggets superstar center Nikola Jokic, the reigning NBA Finals MVP, just passed James on the All-Time triple-double list with his most recent effort. Jokic now sits with 108 triple-doubles in his career, while James has 107.
This speaks to the greatness of Jokic, and his ability to get others involved on the floor. It’s also impressive considering he is a big man. He doesn’t always have the ball in his hands, so that makes it even greater of an accomplishment.
Some will use this to criticize James because that just seems to be what happens when anything like this occurs. But it also takes nothing away from James, because the triple-double isn’t as important as it used to be. Getting at least 10-10-10 in a game is impressive, and still something to celebrate, but it doesn’t have the same effect on a game that it used to.
Players do it more often now, and sometimes it doesn’t end with the team getting the win. This isn’t to say that the players shouldn’t try to achieve this stat line, but when it happens almost daily across the NBA now, it isn’t as shocking.
James presumably has several more seasons to log more triple-doubles of his own, but the younger Jokic, still in his prime, will probably have more opportunities.
Congrats to Jokic, and hopefully we get to see these two battle it out in a massive playoff series once again this season!
