Lakers News: Reporter Wonders Just How Real Anthony Davis' 3-Point Shooting Is

In this story:
In order for the Lakers to get where they want to go this season, star Anthony Davis is going to need to put the team on his back. He needs to fully take the torch from co-star LeBron James as the best player on the team, and it needs to happen early in the year.
When the Lakers won the title in 2020, it was on the back of Davis being aggressive each night, and him being on par with James at worse. This is what the team needs from him, and it starts with his ability to consistently be a threat from outside the painted area.
“One of the biggest storylines of camp has been Davis’ jumper, which, by all accounts, is improved and much smoother. Davis was automatic from deep in pregame warmups, but that only means so much if he isn’t willing to take them in games.”

If Davis can knock down three-point shots at a decent clip, the Lakers will be in a solid spot. This would allow the fear of Davis hitting outside shots to draw the defense out of the painted area, which would open up driving lanes for other LA players.
Head coach Darvin Ham provided some insight into how he wants Davis to approach things moving forward in regards to him shooting outside shots.
“I mean, it’s just a matter of him taking different opportunities and making quick decisions,” Ham said. “It’s not like, ‘OK, I need you to go out here and every time you pop, make a 3.’ Just do what makes sense within the realm of what we’re trying to do on the offensive end. If it calls for a post-up, if it calls for a short roll, if it calls for a pick-and-pop 3, then do that. If it calls for you putting the ball on the floor and breaking the defender down off the dribble, do that.”
Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic
Davis has shown an ability to be a good shooter, so he needs to find his form somehow. It has caused issues over the last few years, and it will be a key element to the overall success of the team.
