Lakers News: Tweaked Scoring Strategy Propelled Anthony Davis To Huge Third Quarter Vs Rockets

In this story:
Coming into their game against the Houston Rockets on Sunday, your Los Angeles Lakers wanted to show that their first matchup with Houston was a fluke. But shortly after the game started, they realized that these Rockets were ready to play.
LA found themselves down early, but a surge from star Anthony Davis in the second half led them to a big win. Davis scored 13 of his 27 points in the third quarter and it helped the team get back into the mix. They went into the fourth with a lead and came away with a one-point victory.
Davis spoke about what happened after halftime, and why it made such a difference to the Lakers.
“Yeah, it just allowed me to be aggressive,” Davis said. “Obviously, the foul trouble kind of slowed it down... When I’m able to have that much room when they are not doubling, it gives me a lot of room to operate either for myself or make plays for my team. When I catch it down there, I just try to be aggressive and go score.”

He looked much more engaged in this game against Houston than he did on Friday night against the Portland Trail Blazers. Davis used the Rockets aggressive defense to the team's advantage, and it gave LA some good looks as well.
“They [the Rockets] don’t double and then I have an advantage where I can go score, which I did a lot early on in the game and then they brought the double-team and I was able to kick it out and we got some swing-swings and some shots,” Davis said.

He is the catalyst for this Lakers team, and they feed off his energy. When Davis is engaged on both ends of the floor, the Lakers are tough to beat.
The hope is that they can build off these last two victories and start picking up consistent wins to stay afloat in the standings. LA knows that each game means something, and they have no interest in playing catch-up down the stretch of the season like they did last year.
