Some John Wooden Sayings To Get You Through The Pandemic

John Wooden mentored so many people, including former Lakers players, with these words of wisdom.

John Wooden won 10 national championships as UCLA’s basketball coach. He guided the Bruins to 10 titles in 12 years, something that likely will never be done again.

His teachings will last forever. And one of the best things about his leadership is that his wisdom works for everyone, whether you’re in sports, business or at home.

We can all use some positive and inspirational words as we follow stay-at-home orders and practice social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wooden coached Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, Mike Warren and so many others. Abdul-Jabbar stayed good friends with Wooden over the years, and they got together often before Wooden’s death in 2010.

Kobe Bryant and his dad, Joe, were big fans of Wooden. Kobe first met Wooden at Chick Hearn’s funeral and he went on to read many of Wooden’s books. Magic Johnson was also a big Wooden admirer.

LeBron James received the McDonald’s All-American MVP trophy from Wooden in 2003 after he had 27 points and seven assists.

Here are five of Wooden’s sayings to get you through these trying times.

1. Make Each Day Your Masterpiece

2. Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be

3. You can do more good by being good than any other way

4. Discipline yourself and others won’t need to

5. Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out
