Why All-Star Believes Russell Westbrook Connected With Clippers Fans Over Lakers Fans

Some interesting perspective here..

One player that Los Angeles Laker fans would like to forget was ever apart of their team is point guard Russell Westbrook. The former Laker and now current Los Angeles Clippers guard had a disastrous stint with the purple and gold.

He was supposed to form a big three alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but the team sputtered.

They missed the postseason during his only full year there, and they were one of the biggest disappointments in NBA history. Westbrook just didn’t fit on the court with James, and it was apparent pretty early on.

The issues that the team saw during his time there weren’t all his fault, but he performed well below standard. He also hardly took accountability for his poor play, leading to a ton of anger from fans.

Westbrook was traded to the Utah Jazz during the trade deadline last season and then caught on with the Clippers after Utah bought him out. He went on to thrive with the Clippers and they resigned him to a new two-year deal.

But one former NBA player believes that there is one reason why Westbrook connected better with Clipper fans over the Laker fans. Former All-Star Baron Davis gave his thoughts on the situation.

“Russ got love from the real people in this city,” Davis told AllClippers. “When you look at L.A. as an entertainment space, a media source, and what the national media picks up, he didn’t get the attention that he should’ve gotten [with the Lakers]. But he’s always got love here.”

Per AllClippers

Davis spent time with the Clippers during his career, so he understands the difference between the two teams and the connection with the city. These are some interesting comments from Davis however.

I believe that if Westbrook had owned up to his poor play, Laker fans wouldn’t have hated him as much. Now, I do believe that the hate went too far.

It was better than Westbrook and the Lakers split up. He fits much better with the Clippers, and both sides are better off without each other.
