Lakers News: With Bob Myers Out, LA Could Add Several Warriors This Summer

In this story:
Longtime Golden State Warriors team president/general manager Bob Myers opted to step down from his post today following a remarkably successful 11-year run that yielded six NBA Finals appearances, four titles and two Executive of the Year honors.
His decision to split, after his Warriors' postseason was ended by your Los Angeles Lakers in a six-game second round series, has essentially opened up Golden State's roster to the vultures.
All-Defensive power forward Draymond Green has a $27.6 million player option for next season, one that he now seems very likely to decline without Myers, the man who drafted him, at the negotiating table. Green is good friends with LA All-Star LeBron James, and could be an interesting fit with Los Angeles as a terrific passer, leader and defender, though his shooting issues could adversely impact the team's already tenuous spacing next to James and Anthony Davis.
Reserve shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo has a $4.7 million player option for 2023-24, one which his play has probably exceeded. He could be an interesting option for LA as a taxpayer mid-level exception ($7 million) signing.
Former All-Star swingman Klay Thompson is eligible for a veteran contract extension before hitting unrestricted free agency in 2024. Given his age, declining athleticism and lengthy injury history, talks between the 6'7" vet and the Warriors could icy in a hurry. He doesn't make much sense as a trade acquisition for LA given his insane expiring contract (and how often he was roundly outplayed by Austin Reaves throughout the Warriors-Lakers series), but the Los Angeles native could be an intriguing prospect as a free agent next year on a cheaper deal, assuming he can't come to terms on an extension.
Young players like Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody could all suddenly be available via trade now, though how much Los Angeles is willing to offload for those pieces (especially the pricey Poole) is anyone's guess. Veteran defense-first guard Gary Payton II, on a very affordable $8.7 million deal for next season, would basically be the guard equivalent of LA power forward Jarred Vanderbilt, but could help shore up the Lakers' wing defense.
