Lakers News: Writer Convinced LA Will Draft Bronny James

This would be the best of both worlds for James.

It has been no secret that this coming year could be the last for star LeBron James with the Los Angeles Lakers. He can become a free agent at the end of the season (he has a player option for 2024-25), and could depart the team that he has spent the past five years of his career with.

James would only leave for two reasons, one being that he no longer feels the Lakers give him a chance to win another title or two, to play with his son Bronny. Bronny, a freshman combo guard at USC, is NBA draft eligible after this coming season, and James hasn’t been shy about expressing his desire to play alongside his son.

Depending on where Bronny gets drafted, if he does, James could decide to spend the last year or so with him. But one pundit believes that James may not have to go anywhere and that the Lakers could bring Bronny to him.

"If he declines a $51 million player option, James could be a free agent next summer. The serious health issue that befell his son Bronny over the summer and potentially delayed his entrance into the NBA Draft could be the single biggest factor affecting James' free agency. He would want to be able to play on the same team as his son, if it's possible, but even if Bronny is in the draft (he intends to play at some point this season as a freshman for USC), most observers believe the Lakers will find a way to make sure that happens in Los Angeles."

Per Joe Vardon of The Athletic

If the Lakers were to have a chance to land Bronny, they surely would take it. It would mean keeping the elder James on the roster, and they would then get the chance to see what his son could do in the league for themselves.

Bronny isn’t likely to be a superstar like his dad, but he projects to be a quality role player in the league. This could be the best of both worlds for everyone involved, and it isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility.
