Lakers News: Cam Reddish Breaks Down LA’s Approach To Offense With LeBron Out

In this story:
After another solid game by Los Angeles Lakers starting shooting guard Cam Reddish, he is finally showing his capability in the NBA. Reddish scored 18 points in helping the team take down the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night, without the services of star LeBron James. James' status remains in doubt for tonight's matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies.
James was out dealing with an injury, but the rest of the guys helped get the big win. The young forward spoke about how the offense works without James in the lineup.
“To come out with energy from the very start, getting after it," Reddish said. "Me personally like defensively like getting after, you know LeBron is obviously the head of the snake but we can have a nice win to come out and bring energy."
Per ESPN Los Angeles
The guys stepped up without their leader, and Reddish was one of the main contributors. Situations matter, and this is echoed each season in the NBA. Reddish is thriving with the Lakers right now, and it’s due to the way they are encouraging him.
Reddish hasn’t lived up to the hype that surrounded him when he first came to the league from Duke, and he has bounced around after being drafted. But he is getting a solid run with the Lakers, and it could end up doing more than helping LA win games.
He was moved into the starting lineup two games ago, and the Lakers have won both times. He has been instrumental in each win, and he is looking much more comfortable in doing so.
Head coach Darvin Ham entrusted him with the starting spot, and Reddish hasn’t disappointed. He spoke about how the young forward has fit in so far.
“For right now, I just think he’s comfortable with the group,” Ham said. “He’s making plays. He’s not forcing anything. He’s shot the ball well. He’s playing downhill in these recent two games. He’s guarded some tough matchups. He’s another Swiss Army knife that doesn’t require touches necessarily but just gets all of his looks in the flow. He’s a stopgap. He can rotate. He can switch on defense and do a lot of different things on the fly. His genuine, natural knack for the game, I think the way he goes about it, it’s effortless.”
Per Dylan Hernandez of The Los Angeles Times
If Reddish can keep this up, it will be a blessing for the Lakers. He is a critical part of their lineup right now, and he is looking as good as ever on the floor. The team is relying on him, and he is showing them that he has some fight left to go.
