Did Russell deserve to be ejected?

Lakers News: D'Angelo Russell Still Confused About Ejection Vs Heat

In this story:

Normally a very soft-spoken player, Los Angeles Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell saw himself get ejected against the Miami Heat. LA ended up losing the game by one point, 108-107. It would be the team's second consecutive loss in Florida.

Russell was ejected with just under eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter after receiving two quick unsportsmanlike technical foul calls. It appeared that he spoke with the officials and was upset at a non-call that went against the Lakers.

He did clap in the direction of the officials, and probably shouldn’t have done that. But does that really warrant an ejection? It was a strange situation all around and after the game, Russell said he was still trying to figure out what happened.

It was another example of a poorly officiated game around the NBA, and it seems that it is becoming a consistent part of the experience.

Calls need to be consistent throughout a game, and fair to both teams. But often times it does seem that more calls go against the Lakers, or that they aren’t getting the same treatment when on the offensive side of the ball.

It has been going on for some time now, and many remember how the Lakers game against the Boston Celtics ended last season. Or even that entire string of games during that time period that saw the Lakers drop a few contests due to the officials taking over.

This is a problem that the league itself needs to fix, and it’s not just a Lakers issue. In order to protect the integrity of the game itself, the officials need to do a better job of making fair calls throughout.

LA doesn’t have much time to dwell on the loss to the Heat and they need to regroup to get ready for the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. Hopefully, they can get things back on track, because they desperately need a victory after two bad losses to open this road trip.
