Lakers News: ESPN Expert Ranks 2 LA Point Guards Among Position’s All-Time Top 5

In this story:
The Lakers have seen so many great players come through the organization, it can be hard to keep up sometimes. Each decade, they have gotten another star player to lead the team. One of the biggest stars for the organization has been former Laker Earvin "Magic Johnson.
He is consistently put on the Lakers all-time lineup, but where does he stack in terms of all-time point guards?
Since Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors won the 2022 NBA Championship, there has been much debate about who is the greatest point guard of all time. For so long, Johnson was the easy answer, but now Curry has a legitimate argument.
Former Boston Celtic center Kendrick Perkins ranked his top-five point guards in NBA history, and he had a surprising answer. He did put two Lakers on his list, with one that not many may think about. You can see his list below.
Obviously, Johnson is interchangeable with Curry at one-two, but putting Westbrook into his list took some guys by Perkins. Westbrook’s time with the Lakers wasn't great by any means, but we can’t forget just how special he has been over the course of his career.
He is forever associated with the Lakers, no matter how it ended. Westbrook and the Lakers wanted things to work out, but it just wasn't in the cards.
He is a future Hall-of-Famer and deserves major respect. Westbrook would likely go into the Hall-of-Fame as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder since he spent the majority of his career there.
Perkins is a fan of the game, so he understands just how good Westbrook has been. But it's still cool for him to include him on the list. Both Westbrook and Johnson are key members of the history of the NBA, and the Lakers are lucky to have had both wear the purple and gold.
