In this story:

For the first time in a while, it seems that the Lakers will be entering the new year with more wing and front-court depth than backcourt. LA prioritized having more size on their roster for this year, and it should allow them to be able to have all sorts of different lineups throughout the season.

They have guys who can play in the backcourt, but they are also a little more suited for wing players. However, guys like Cam Reddish or Gabe Vincent can take over when called upon.

The Lakers have Austin Reaves as their starting shooting guard, but who claims the backup spot? This may be the weakest part of the LA roster, but it’s something that they can easily address as the year goes on.

"All of the options are relatively unproven. Cam Reddish is on team number four in five seasons. He’s never quite put it together enough to hold down a regular rotation role. Max Christie is heading into his second season. His rookie year was fairly ho-hum, but Christie was productive in the G League and terrific in Summer League. He could be poised for a breakout year. The other options are rookies Jalen Hood-Schifino and Maxwell Lewis.”

Per Keith Smith of Spotrac.com

Reddish also makes sense, and Keith Smith of Spotrac believes he will get the nod.

“The guess here is that Reddish gets the first shot, simply because he’s the veteran option. But Christie looks like he has the best mix of offensive skills, along with being a helpful perimeter defender. Look for him to win the role before long.”

I’ll go against Smith on this one, and I’d assume it would be Christie getting the nod. He has earned it with his emergence this year, and LA could benefit from his two-way abilities.

Christie has been turning heads in training camp after a strong showing at the NBA Summer League, and he looks like he is primed for a breakout year. The young forward has all the skills needed to earn significant minutes for this team, and he just needs to keep working on his game.

No matter who takes the role, LA has plenty of options here, and that is a great thing. The team will benefit from all the talent on it, and it should be a great year for the Lakers.
