Osceola Magic Suffers Home Loss vs. Texas Legends

The Orlando Magic's G League affiliate in Osceola, featuring rookie Jett Howard, suffered a loss versus the Dallas Mavericks' Texas Legends.

The Osceola Magic (6-4) came up short in a G League showdown versus the Texas Legends at home in a blowout 116-112 loss.

Osceola had been hot as of late, winning six of its last seven games entering the night, but it was all Texas early. In the first quarter, the Legends would stack up a 20-point lead, which the Magic would spend the night trying to climb out of.

Without reigning G League player of the Month Mac McClung, who averaged over 25 pints per game in November, the team would rely on other players to shoulder the scoring load.

Osceola Magic rookie Jett Howard struggled early versus the Texas Legends.

One of those players was rookie Jett Howard. It began as a disappointing home debut for Orlando's No. 11 pick, Howard, who has struggled to display consistency during his run in the G League. In Howard's G League debut, he scored 34 points, but since then, he's followed it up by recording eight and 17 points. Tonight, Howard shot 5-19 from the field and scored 17 points.

Despite falling into a big hole offensively, the Magic fought back in the fourth quarter to nearly make it a two-point game with less than a minute remaining. Although Howard had struggled early, the shooter kept shooting and helped bring the team back into the contest with a three-pointer and free throws down the stretch.

Howard and the rest of Osceola's squad would play tight defense in the fourth quarter and frustrate Texas. Not many outside Osceola may have believed in Magic, but the home crowd never wavered.

Ultimately, the team would come up short, though; the team's next opportunity to play will come on Friday against the Oklahoma City Blue.
