Warriors' Draymond Green Calls Out Mavs Ex Grant Williams: 'Talking Too Much Got You Out Of Dallas'

The Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets got into a scuffle at the end of their game on Friday, and former Dallas Mavericks forward Grant Williams was right in the middle of it.

The unwritten rules of basketball led to a scuffle at the end of the Golden State Warriors' 97-84 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night at the Chase Center, and former Dallas Mavericks forward Grant Williams found himself right in the middle of it.

With the game already decided and 12.2 seconds left, Warriors guard Lester Quinones went for a layup with his team up 95-84. Hornets forward Miles Bridges was called for a goaltending violation, and he took exception to Quinones going for the basket even though there was a slight difference in the shot clock.

As those two went at it, Williams barged his way in to stand up for his teammate and went forehead-to-forehead with Quinones before they were eventually separated. Both players were ejected after the scuffle.

While standing up for your team and teammates in that situation is more than understandable, Golden State forward Draymond Green wasn't bashful about how he felt about Williams' actions.

"Grant Williams got to stop it man," Green said. "Being this tough guy is going absolutely wrong for him. He's a really nice guy, and for some reason, he kept trying to jump on the unlikeable side, and I must tell you, it's not always fun over here. It's not always a good time."

Green added: "Talking too much kind of got you out of Dallas. He's over there talking too much now. Slow down and stop all the tough guy stuff."

Green isn't too far off the mark, as Williams' play and personality ultimately led to him getting traded by the Mavs to the Hornets in a deal for P.J. Washington at the trade deadline. The Mavs have gone 4-0 since trading Williams, while he has averaged 17 points per game off the bench for Charlotte.

While the early returns have proven good for both sides, if there's anyone Williams should take advice from, it's Green. If Williams keeps antagonizing opposing teams and potentially rubs his teammates on the Hornets the wrong way, it may not be long before his stint in Charlotte runs out as well.
