Draymond Green to Mavs? Dallas Betting Favorites in Trade

With Warriors' Draymond Green's future in Golden State uncertain after his indefinite suspension, could the Dallas Mavs be a potential landing spot? What the odds say about a trade.

Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors are accustomed to being in the news for all the right reasons as four-time champions since 2014.

But, that's not the case this season -- especially for Green.

On Tuesday, Green was ejected from Golden State's 119-116 loss to the Phoenix Suns after striking Suns' Jusuf Nurkic in the face with a flailing punch.

As a multiple-time offender of unsportsmanlike acts, such as choking Timberwolves' Rudy Gobert on Nov. 14, one of his three ejections this season, the NBA indefinitely suspended Green, which includes completing specific league and team conditions before he returns to the floor.

Currently, the Warriors sit as the No. 11 seed in the Western Conference with a 10-14 record and with Green out for the foreseeable future, on top of their already struggling roster, could Golden State look to move on from the future Hall of Famer?

On Saturday, Bovada released their betting odds for the top teams to trade for Green, and the Dallas Mavericks found themselves at as the favorite with +210 odds.

Another day, another Mavs trade rumor, right?

At first glance, the addition of a defensive savant and four-time champion in Green is something you'd never look down upon, but at what cost for the troubled 33-year old veteran?

Green has three-years, $76.6 million remaining on his contract, which includes a player option in 2026-27 and on the season, is averaging 9.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game, his lowest R+A numbers since his sophomore season in 2013-14. At that price, with his troubled resume, would a trade for Green make sense for Dallas?

On Wednesday, CBS Sports' Sam Quinn proposed a trade that would land Green in Dallas for Dereck Lively II, Tim Hardaway Jr., and a future protected first-round pick, which immediately sent the wrath of Mavs Twitter to Quinn's doorstep.

For Dallas to acquire a player of Green's stature would require sending real assets Golden State's way, which the chance of Lively being a part of any trade at this juncture seems almost zero unless a legit star is involved. Does Josh Green and Grant Williams move the needle enough for Steph Curry and Golden State? We'd doubt it.

For Golden State, to part with a player like Green, though with his many flaws, would be a tall task for the Warriors brass to say farewell to that championship era. And to do so, they'd need a quality return to put around Curry because if not, then why make the trade?

The betting odds may say one thing, but at the end of the day for Dallas, unless the Warriors are desperate to wash their hands of Green, and the Mavs are complacent with having the ultimate technical foul duo of Green and Luka Doncic, a deal seems unlikely.
