Paul George Passes Mavs Legend Dirk Nowitzki; Clippers, Kings Make NBA History

Although the Dallas Mavericks had Friday night off, they still found a way to enter the spotlight -- at least for a brief moment -- as Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George passed Dirk Nowitzki for 15th on the NBA's all-time 3-pointers made list ... and there's a good chance he could pass Jason Kidd for 14th as well in the next game or two.

George passed Nowitzki in what ended up being the second highest-scoring game in league history, as the Clippers eventually fell to the Sacramento Kings in a high-octane battle that ended in double overtime by the final score of 176-175.

The Kings and Clippers fell just short of the all-time record, as the Detroit Pistons beat the Denver Nuggets in a 186-184 triple-overtime game in 1983.

With that type of overall scoring, you can bet that the individual box scores looked pretty crazy when the dust settled. Kings' guard duo of De'Aaron Fox and Malik Monk combined for 87 points on the night, whereas George and Kawhi Leonard combined for 78 points. Overall, 14 players scored in double-figures on Friday night.

Russell Westbrook, who recently signed with the Clippers after receiving a buyout from the Utah Jazz, performed well in his debut, as he finished with 17 points and 14 assists as a starter while shooting 7-13 from the field.

With the Clippers' loss, the Mavs are now tied with LA in the loss column with 21 games remaining in the season. Dallas is currently the sixth-seed in the Western Conference standings, but its breathing down the necks of the Clippers and Phoenix Suns.

Although it might not be at the level of excitement that the Clippers and Kings provided, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving's upcoming Sunday matinee matchup against LeBron James and the seemingly-revitalized Los Angeles Lakers should be another treat for NBA fans everywhere.
