Could Former Mavs’ Dorian Finney-Smith Be Dillon Brooks Replacement for Grizzlies?

In this story:
Heading into the offseason, the Dallas Mavericks aren't the only marquee team expected to make big changes. After falling to the No. 7 seed Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the NBA playoffs, the Memphis Grizzlies have already made a decision on one of their more polarizing players.
On Monday, The Athletic reported that the Grizzlies told upcoming free agent Dillon Brooks that they would not re-sign him 'under any circumstances'. Brooks, who notably talked trash to Lakers' LeBron James through the first two games of their series, failed to perform up to standards as the Grizzlies went on to lose in six games.
With Brooks looking to be out of the picture in Memphis, the Grizzlies must look to fill the void on the perimeter this summer in hopes of finding a 3-and-D wing in his place. And Memphis could look towards a former Maverick to replace Brooks.
On Tuesday, ESPN's Tim MacMahon suggested that former Mav Dorian Finney-Smith could be 'best case scenario' for the Grizzlies this summer to replace Brooks.
"To me, he (Finney-Smith) would be best case scenario reasonable cost type of trade,” MacMahon said on an episode of Howdy Partners.
Both Brooks and Finney-Smith both fit the 3-and-D mold that every team seeks for their roster. With Finney-Smith, his size and length provides the ability to defend and play multiple positions. Offensively, Brooks took six more shots per game than Finney-Smith this season, while DFS shot just under 34 percent from deep, compared to Brooks' 32 percent.
Overall, what Finney-Smith would bring to the Grizzlies is exactly what they need in place of Brooks. For Brooks, he hasn't yet accepted who he is as a role player as he's reportedly seeking a bigger role on the offensive end, while Finney-Smith is content with any shot he gets. Finney-Smith knows his role and stars in it as he puts his head down and goes to work every single game with no ego involved.
"More than anything, he knows exactly who he is and doesn't complain about it. He's a 3-and-D guy. He's either going to shoot the ball or move the ball. He's not going to grumble about shots," MacMahon said of Finney-Smith. "He would be exactly what the Grizzlies are looking for."
Now, for Mavs fans, seeing Finney-Smith in a Grizzlies uniform four times a year is less than ideal, as Dallas would likely bring Finney-Smith back in a perfect world. However, the Mavs have to wait until Finney-Smith is traded to another team first, or a full year from their trade with Brooklyn has passed, before they can attempt to bring back fan-favorite "Ferrari Doe.”
